North-western European Potato Growers puts an end to 11,000 hectares of potatoes

The total production of consumption potatoes in Belgium, Germany, France and the Netherlands is estimated by NEPG at 22.66 million tons. That is 1.1 million tons (5%) more than in 2022. However, compared to the first estimate in November 2023, the estimate is much lower. At that time, a yield of 45.8 tons per hectare was assumed. This has now been reduced to 43.7 tonnes per hectare. That year, after an extreme drought, there was a very meager harvest. In 2023, potato crops produced more than 4 tons more potatoes per hectare than the previous year. In combination with about 8% more area, this resulted in an increase in production of 18.2% to more than 4.5 million tons.
