Spain: New Kino mandarin extends season to May

The Valencian Community is leading the way in expanding the area in Europe for Kino, a new extra late mandarin variety. With this variety, the Valencian citrus sector will be able to extend the mandarin season from May to May or even early June, with a product that they believe will improve the current supply. This is made possible thanks to the preferential agreement between the Ava-Asaja growers' association and Eurosemillas, the Spanish company that manages this citrus variety and that will give priority to the growers affiliated to the cooperative when granting licenses. Earlier this week, Cristóbal Aguado, President of Ava-Asaja, and José María Fontán, Director of Innovations at Eurosemillas, presented the main features of this new mandarin.
