New nectarine from the southern US presents characteristics of the mango

The Arkansas Fruit Breeding Program in the United States has released a new yellow-fleshed nectarine with resistance to bacteria. The Ozark Mango, named for its tropical flavor profile, is the seventh nectarine developed by the breeding program, located at the University of Arkansas, in the southern United States. Program director Margaret Worthington says the variety has been in testing for more than a decade. Developers adapted the fruit to thrive in the warm, humid climate of the southern United States. "Over 13 years of trials, the Ozark™ Mango had an average Brix of 15 percent, indicating that it is very sweet," Worthington said in a press release. "It also has a nice aroma and flavor that I would describe as 'tropical' or 'mango-like.'" The variety is considered a medium cold nectarine that requires between 600 and 800 hours of cold per year.
