Regenerative livestock farming has taken a step that until recently seemed more promise than reality. The South American Regenerative Livestock Program (SARA) completed its first issuance of verified carbon credits under the Verra standard, the leading global entity in this market. This is the first such experience in South America validated under the VM0042 methodology, placing the program among a very small group of initiatives worldwide that have managed to transform productive practices into internationally recognized credits. The verification corresponds to the first monitoring period, between 2019 and 2023, during which more than 200,000 tons of carbon were certified to have been removed from the atmosphere due to changes in the management of livestock systems.
