Russia has significantly reduced its bulk wine imports in the first half of 2020, with a nearly 90% drop in June, in an effort to protect local production. This has severely affected Spain, the leading bulk wine supplier, resulting in a 70% loss in the semester and over 100% in May and June. The new Russian Law on Viticulture has led to a decrease in wine consumption and a surge in prices. In response, the Russian Government has granted the Ministry of Agriculture broad powers in viticulture and winemaking regulation. The Law "On Viticulture and Oenology" aims to reduce counterfeit products and boost domestic wine production.
