The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in South Korea announced a 11% increase in an export contract worth 65 billion won to Japan at the '28th Korean laver export bidding and consulting session. Total exports of laver and seaweed preparations amounted to 8.7 million, with record high contracts for seasoned seaweed and seaweed preparations. Despite the challenging environment with a low yen, the contract amount for these high added value products reached an all-time high. The ministry plans to expand the scale of seaweed exports to Japan by increasing the quota for these high added value items.
