The Union of Associations of Walnut Producers of Moldova has reported a surge in purchase proposals for walnut kernels, with some traders considering selling to non-traditional buyers like Russia due to low demand in the European Union. Russian wholesale buyers are offering 2.5-2.8 euros/kg, similar to prices proposed by European wholesalers this year. However, the less stringent quality requirements and complex logistics from Russia make the deal uncertain. Despite a revival of demand from European processors due to low stocks from last year's harvest, domestic walnut prices in Moldova remain around 20-30% lower than last year.
