[Korean Farmers and Fishermen Newspaper, Reporter Jo Young-kyu] With the establishment of a specialized testing facility that can ensure the safety of batteries installed in electric agricultural machinery, attention is being drawn to whether it can contribute to the revitalization of eco-friendly agricultural machinery. Recently, concerns about lithium battery fires have been growing. Lithium batteries, which are primarily used to power electric devices such as electric bicycles, have seen a near 50% increase in fire incidents, according to an analysis by Ose-hee, the former National Small Business Committee Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, based on data from the Fire Agency. The number of lithium battery fires increased from 281 cases in 2019 to 543 cases in 2024. As of June this year, the number has already surpassed 300 cases.
