The Office of Agricultural Economics in Thailand is promoting the cultivation of 'Pai Sang Mon' bamboo in the northern provinces, finding it to have market potential and suit the local area. This bamboo species is fast-growing, has consistent stems, and is suitable for biomass production. In the first year, the production cost is 7,020 baht/rai, with labor wages and maintenance increasing the cost in subsequent years. However, the crop can be sold for 1.50 baht/kg from the fourth year, providing a potential average net return of 4,480 baht/rai/year. Demand for this bamboo in the processing industry is high, particularly for making wood chips for other products. The cultivation of Pai Sang Mon bamboo is not only profitable but also environmentally friendly, absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen, making it an attractive alternative crop in northern Thailand.
