Despite political tensions between the European Union and Norway over fishing rights, the Norwegian Seafood Council is planning to increase exports to Spain, one of its top five markets. This comes despite calls for a boycott of Norwegian fish imports by the EU fishing sector. The first five months of 2021 saw a 12% increase in fish sales to Spain compared to the same period in 2020. In 2020, Norway exported 96,135 tonnes of fish and shellfish to Spain, an increase of 2% in volume and 5% in value. The outlook is particularly promising for salmon, Norway's favorite fish.
