Norwegian seafood export value in July totalled NOK 13 billion

In July, Norway saw a diversification in its seafood export markets, with Poland, Denmark, and the Netherlands being the largest, as the country exported to 111 countries, one more than the previous year. Despite a decline in salmon prices, a weakening Norwegian krone against the euro and dollar drove an increase in export value. Record exports were also seen in herring and mackerel. The UK market experienced an 8% value and 12% volume growth, driven by salmon, trout, fishmeal, and fish oil. However, the decline in fresh cod exports, due to lower quotas, was offset by stable farmed cod exports. China, Portugal, and Congo-Brazzaville saw the highest value growth in various clipped fish products. Portugal reported record prices for herring and the best month for mackerel. While exports of live king crab to the USA increased, exports to Canada fell due to competition from Russia, which started fishing for red king crab in the Barents Sea earlier than usual. Finally, prawn exports experienced the strongest July on record, with over 2,600 tonnes exported, mainly to Canada and Iceland.
