REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia is at a historic juncture towards absolute food self-sufficiency. After the phenomenal success in achieving rice self-sufficiency by 2025 announced by President Prabowo Subianto in Karawang, the government's focus has now expanded to other strategic commodities: garlic and corn. In the roadmap for self-sufficiency from 2026–2030, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has been designated as the main pillar and the basis for the national animal feed industry. Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman emphasized that the designation of NTB as a strategic region is not merely a geographical coincidence. "NTB is the center for the development of national commodities to strengthen food security and the welfare of farmers," said the Minister during an inspection of the fields in Sembalun District, East Lombok, on Monday (2/9).
