A study conducted by Aline Cruz, a graduate of the State University of Southwest Bahia (UESB), explores the use of palm kernel cake as an alternative nutrition source for dairy cows, with a focus on reducing production costs while improving sustainability. This co-product, derived from the processing of palm oil, is shown to have significant nutritional benefits, including high protein content and lower environmental impact compared to traditional feeds like corn and soybean meal. The research suggests that including 10% to 12% of palm kernel cake in the diet of medium production cows can be as effective as a diet composed only of corn and soybeans, and can help decrease the environmental footprint by reducing the disposal of oil palm co-products. This finding highlights the potential for sustainable practices in the dairy industry by introducing alternative feed sources and promoting the efficient use of agricultural by-products.
