Russia: Omsk farmers increased potato harvest by 30% in 2022

The potato harvest in the Omsk region in 2022 amounted to 420 thousand tons, which is more than 30% more than last year, Nikolai Drofa, Minister of Agriculture and Food of the region, told TASS on Wednesday. For the development of potato growing, the region subsidized technical re-equipment and compensated farmers for part of the costs of fertilizers. "This year, the potato yield has increased significantly - from 180 to 240 centners per hectare. Thanks to this, the potato harvest amounted to 420 thousand tons," said Drofa. This is more than 30% more than last year, when 321 thousand tons of potatoes were harvested. The Minister noted that in the spring in the Omsk region it was decided to make potato growing a priority industry. Farmers who grow this crop could receive subsidies for technical re-equipment and offset part of the costs of fertilizers.
