Walnuts could become a key product in Ukraine's agrarian integration into the EU. This is stated in the research by the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) titled "The Walnut Industry in Ukraine." It is noted that in the 2024/25 marketing year, Ukraine ranked 4th in the world in walnut production, growing approximately 101 thousand tons, trailing only China, the USA, and Chile. In 2023, the export of Ukrainian walnuts was estimated at $77 million. Researchers point out that the industry has only recently begun to commercialize. Until now, it has been quite informal—over 95% of walnuts are grown in private households. "This is a unique production model, completely opposite to, for example, the American one—using large industrial orchards in the USA," experts noted. According to KSE researchers, state and donor support can significantly expand the industry.
