Record-breaking selling prices for onions in Ukraine have reached a new high of UAH 30/kg ($0.82/kg), with further increases expected due to high demand and low supply as stocks are nearly depleted. Prices have surged by 11% on average since the last week and have increased fourfold compared to last year, hitting a record of 35 UAH/kg ($0.96/kg). The situation is exacerbated by frequent power outages rendering onions in storage unusable, leading to an acute shortage and limiting the possibility of imported onions to make up for the shortfall, as most Central Asian countries have cut their supply to the foreign market.
