The cost of onions in Tajikistan has seen a significant increase, reaching three times the price from the previous year. This surge in prices is attributed to various factors, including adverse weather conditions such as heavy rainfall, unfavorable for onion crops, and natural causes like unfavorable weather conditions. These conditions led to delayed ripening and reduced crop size, resulting in higher prices. Despite the increase in income from onion sales in the first half of 2022, experts anticipate that the situation will improve with the arrival of a new harvest, expected to be larger than the previous year, thanks to favorable sowing conditions and advanced sowing techniques. Additionally, the global market has seen similar price hikes due to widespread drought and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, with some countries even imposing export bans to stabilize prices.
