Heavy rains in southern Brazil have slowed down the harvesting of bulbs in several regions, including Ituporanga, São José do Norte, Irati, and Guarapuava, causing a decrease in the pace of harvesting and leading to concerns about the quality of the bulbs. Despite these challenges, demand for southern onions remains high, and prices have increased this week due to the slowdown in harvesting. The early hybrid variety saw the highest increase in prices, reaching R$28.50/20 kg bag in Irati (PR) and R$27.43 in Guarapuava. Prices paid to producers in São José do Norte also increased by 9.6%. The forecast shows that the volume of rainfall expected for the next fortnight is concentrated next Saturday (14), with varying amounts in different regions.
