The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) the resolution establishing the available number of fishing days for the optimization mechanism by vessel and group of vessels for bottom trawling in the Mediterranean for 2025. The optimization mechanism aims to prevent vessels or groups of vessels that exhaust their allocated days before the end of the year from having to stop their activity, while also preventing underutilization of the fishing days attributed to Spain. With this measure, the General Secretariat for Fisheries seeks "to ensure a more balanced and efficient use of the available fishing effort, while contributing to maintaining economic activity and employment on the Mediterranean coast."
