The article outlines the significant changes and challenges faced by the Turkish organic agriculture sector due to the new European Union legislation on Organic Agriculture, effective from January 2022. Highlighted by Dr. Füsun Zehra Özkan from Altınbaş University, the legislation emphasizes environmental protection, biodiversity, and animal welfare, imposing strict rules on sustainable production and chemical use. Turkish Organic Food producers, a major exporter to EU countries, must comply with these regulations, including reorganized production rules and a strengthened control system, to enhance exports and sustainability. Additionally, Turkish businesses and certification bodies exporting to the EU must be authorized by the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, approved by the EU, and certified by accredited organizations, with four certification bodies in Turkey accredited and authorized to operate under these new regulations.
