Organic share in German fruit cultivation is 20.5%

The article reports a significant decrease of 9.2% in the number of top and stone fruit growers in Germany over the last five years, leaving the industry with 6,500 members. In spite of this decline, the total acreage for the cultivation of these fruits and nuts has remained stable at 49,200 hectares. On average, each fruit farm encompasses approximately 7.6 hectares. The German fruit landscape is diverse, with apples being the most cultivated fruit at 33,100 hectares, followed by sweet cherries, plums, pears, sour cherries, and a smaller portion dedicated to mirabelles, apricots, peaches, quinces, walnuts, and hazelnuts.
