The President of the Union of Chambers of Agriculture of Turkey, Şemsi Bayraktar, has reported a significant increase in pepper production in the country, with a 55% rise to 3 million tons in 2023. Despite the increase in production, he has highlighted issues such as rising production costs, exposure to natural disasters, and marketing difficulties. These challenges, along with an imbalance between production and consumption, have led to low producer prices and higher retail prices for products like pepper, squash, watermelon, pistachios, almonds, and tomatoes. Bayraktar has called for interventions by the Soil Products Office and suggested the need for establishing an effective marketing system in the sector to address these challenges.
