(Ulsan=Yonhap News) Reporter Jang Ji-hyun = The Ulsan Institute of Health and Environment announced on the 29th that all goat meat safety inspections this year were deemed 'suitable.' According to the institute, the number of goats slaughtered in the Ulsan region this year totaled 861 heads, more than a 400% increase from 153 heads in 2022 over three years. The city's Institute of Health and Environment reported that the consumption of goat meat as an alternative health food has increased since the enactment of the 'Dog Food Termination Act' last year, and therefore expanded the goat meat inspection this year. First, nine items of microbial testing, including Staphylococcus aureus, were newly conducted on 113 goats. The number of rapid tests for residual substances such as antibiotics was also expanded from 66 heads last year to 100 heads. The test results showed that the microbial and residual substance levels of all the meat were within the standard, indicating no safety issues. The institute plans to continue conducting goat meat safety inspections at the slaughter production stage to block hazards before distribution. An institute official said, "We will continue to expand inspections and research to supply safe livestock products to citizens and support livestock farmers in managing their animals."
