The candidates for the Presidency of Aragon for the elections on February 8 have included in their programs various initiatives to boost the primary sector, with a consensus among all: the defense of a Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) with sufficient funds. The trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and Mercosur, the possible diversions from the Ebro River, irrigation, agricultural insurance, extensive livestock farming, wildlife, or the use of agricultural land to install renewables have focused part of the campaign debate. The current acting president, Jorge Azcón, has assured in recent days that he understands the farmers' mobilizations, as they suffer from rising production costs, as well as unfair competition.
