Pakistan is seeking to reduce its reliance on edible oil imports by enhancing investment in olive oil cultivation and extraction. The country has a vast amount of land suitable for olive production and has the potential to become a significant olive oil exporter. Olive trees can start producing oil five years after planting, and one acre can yield 200 to 300 liters of olive oil annually. Pakistan faces high inflation, with its Consumer Price Index reaching 27.3% in August, caused by rising prices of essential foodstuffs. The floods have further disrupted crops and supply chains, exacerbating the food shortage and economic crisis. The government is considering importing olive tree varieties from Spain, Italy, and Turkey to encourage farming communities to engage in olive cultivation.
