Up to 500 million tons of palm waste and biomass in Southeast Asia can be used to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), which will help the region diversify its activities beyond limited used vegetable oil reserves, experts said at the MyAero SAF symposium held from July 1 to 3. During an extensive discussion titled "Beyond UCO - Sustainable Palm Feedstock as a Game-Changer for SAF Development in the Asia-Pacific Region," experts from technology licensors, leading palm oil companies, and sustainability organizations emphasized the urgent need to diversify SAF sources, focusing particularly on waste streams and residual products from palm oil production as a largely unused solution.
