In the first half of April 2021, Vietnam saw a significant increase in pangasius exports to Russia, with a value of US$11.4 million, a rise of 118.7% compared to the same period in the previous year. This marks a positive start to the year for pangasius exports to Russia, a traditional market for Vietnamese pangasius but one with an unstable import policy. Russia is a major importer of white fish and white fish products, including frozen tilapia from China and hake from Argentina. The COVID-19 pandemic had impacted Russia's seafood industry, leading to a halt in imports from China and South Korea. Despite this, Vietnam has emerged as the largest supplier of frozen pangasius to the Russian market in 2021, with contributions also from Belarus and Kazakhstan.
