Paraguay is set to see a significant boost in its slaughter capacity by 2025, with an anticipated increase of nearly 20%, according to the National Service for Quality and Animal Health. This surge is primarily due to the construction of two new slaughterhouses, Victoria and Frigorífico Los Lazos, which are expected to commence operations in the latter half of 2024 and early 2025, respectively. The new facilities will not only increase the country's export capabilities but also inject more competition into the local market. Despite this positive outlook, there remains a gap between the number of cattle slaughtered and the potential production, with the actual figures for 2025 predicted to fluctuate by up to 5% from the previous year's totals, reaching around 2.05 million animals.
