São Paulo, 14 - The Brazilian Fish Farming Association (Peixe BR) stated in a note that the United States' decision to impose a 50% tariff on Brazilian products directly affects the fish farming production chain, especially tilapia farming. "The North American market is the main destination for Brazilian fish farming international shipments, accounting for 89% of the exported volume in 2024, which resulted in US$ 52.2 million in business," the entity highlighted in a note. Among the shipped species, tilapia leads, followed by tambaqui. Fish farming in Brazil is present in 237,669 Brazilian rural establishments, in all 27 states of the federation and in more than 60% of cities, generating over 1 million direct and indirect jobs, it states.
