Pepper farmers in Sagaing Region, Myanmar are facing challenges due to weak export routes, especially with the impact of COVID-19. The market is oversaturated with pepper production, leading to low prices and difficulties for farmers. Usually, pepper is exported to China, but the current situation is worsening. Currently, farmers are selling to local areas, with green chilies selling for 800 kyats per pound. The cost of cultivating pepper is high, around 300,000 to 500,000 kyats per acre, making it a financial strain for the farmers.
