Pepper prices in Vietnam are experiencing a significant increase, reaching nearly 90,000 VND/kg due to a scarcity of supply and increased purchases by businesses and traders for year-end orders. This price surge is affecting both the domestic market and the export market, with the average export price of black pepper in the first half of 2021 reaching 3,090 USD/ton, up 55.7% from the same period in 2020. The price hike is also attributed to the impact of climate change on pepper production in Vietnam and other major producing countries like Brazil and Indonesia, which is expected to continue driving prices up in the latter half of the year.
