Peru is strengthening its leading position in the global blueberry market by opening up new markets in Malaysia and India. The National Agricultural Sanitary Service of Peru (SENASA) has confirmed that both countries have approved the necessary phytosanitary requirements for the import of Peruvian blueberries, as well as citrus fruits. Exporters will be able to start shipping to these markets later in the year. India and Malaysia are rapidly increasing their berry imports, providing a significant link in the diversification of Peruvian exports. Peru has seen a sixfold increase in blueberry exports over the past five years, surpassing Chile in 2020. The United States is the largest consumer of Peruvian blueberries, accounting for about half of the annual exports.
