Between January and August of 2025, Peru exported 35,981 tons of quinoa for $95 million. Although the volume exported remained virtually the same as in the same period of the previous year, the value increased by 7%, driven by an improvement in the average price, which reached $2.64 per kilogram, also 7% more than in the previous period, according to FreshFruit. The global quinoa market has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent decades, moving from being an Andean subsistence crop to becoming a recognized "superfood" within specialized segments. This grain, technically a seed but classified as a whole grain, stands out for its exceptional balance of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, in addition to containing all the essential amino acids, particularly lysine, arginine, and histidine, which are fundamental for human development.
