In 2021, Peru ranked as the sixteenth largest exporter of beans with over 100 companies exporting to more than 47 countries. From January to October 2022, bean exports saw a 17% increase in volume and a 15% increase in value, amounting to 48,566 tons valued at US$67 million. This growth is attributed to competitors replacing bean crops with more profitable ones and lower production in major destinations, alongside a surge in demand from Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico due to logistical issues and internal production challenges. However, exports to Asia and Europe saw a decline due to high logistics costs and competition, with the United States, South Korea, and the Dominican Republic being the primary markets.
