The National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA) in Peru has made a breakthrough by successfully breeding ten goats from high-quality embryos imported from Spain, creating a unique genetic nucleus. This achievement, part of the PROCAP project, aims to boost the goat farming sector by introducing the Alpina and Murciano-Granadina breeds, known for their high-value meat and milk. These breeds are expected to enhance the economic stability of small and medium-sized Peruvian farms by providing offspring that can adapt to various feeding systems and produce significant amounts of solids in milk. This initiative is set to benefit an estimated 100,000 producers nationwide, marking a significant step towards sustainable goat farming in Peru.
