Between January and September of 2024, Peru's capsicum exports reached a value of US$ 223 million 697 thousand, marking a slight 1% increase from the previous year. Despite facing challenges such as the use of prohibited pesticides, seed shortages, water contamination, and weather-related issues, the country is aiming to double its current 3% share of the global capsicum market. The United States, Mexico, and Guatemala are key markets for Peru, and the country is also looking to expand into Asia, particularly China. However, the industry also faces challenges such as the need for more exporting companies, better logistics infrastructure, and higher quality production. The majority of Peru's capsicum production is done in Lima, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Arequipa, Tacna, and Pasco, and the country ranked 19th as a global producer in 2023.
