(Agraria.pe) The Brazil nut is one of the products seeking to establish itself in the global superfood market. It is highly valued for its high selenium content and antioxidant properties. However, despite this fruit growing wild in the Amazon shared by Brazil, Bolivia, and Peru, exports have not yet taken off with the same strength as other nuts. Approximately 55,000 tons are exported worldwide for an estimated value of US$ 346 million, making it one of the smallest market nuts, especially when compared to established products like almonds (US$ 7,260 million) or macadamia nuts (US$ 7,548 million). Regarding Peru, exports in 2024 closed at around 5,471 tons, with a value close to US$ 40 million, giving it a share of approximately 12% of the global market. With this, the country positioned itself as the second-largest exporter, behind Bolivia, which concentrates around 54% of the market share, with shipments bordering US$ 187 million annually.
