Peru's avocado exports experienced a 49% growth in the first five months of 2021, generating USD 463 million and 209,439 tons, according to the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration. Despite a slight increase in shipments, the harvest size decreased by 0.04% in 2020, but production rose by 19.48% to 642,982 tons. Peru is the second largest avocado supplier in the United States and the leading supplier in several other countries. Non-traditional agricultural exports, including fresh grapes, avocados, mangoes, and asparagus, saw a significant increase in the January-May period, contributing to a trade surplus of USD 3,981 million from January to May 2021.
