The National Fisheries Health Agency of Peru (Sanipes) has successfully negotiated the export of octopus, eel, and squid to Australia, utilizing digital health certificates. This development, a response to pandemic-induced restrictions, is set to diversify Peru's hydrobiological product portfolio in the Australian market. Since the Free Trade Agreement with Australia in 2009, trade between the two countries has seen a consistent annual growth of around 5%, with a notable surge of 37.1% in the last quarter of 2020. Peruvian exports to Australia include fishmeal, fish oil, shrimp tails, and fan shells, with canned fish, fish oil, and scallops experiencing significant growth in 2020.
