The European Union (EU) has removed Peruvian organic quinoa from the list of organic products subject to additional controls, thanks to a public-private collaboration. This development, announced by the Association of Exporters (ADEX), will be effective from next year and will also facilitate the export of other organic products like lemon, pomegranate, and coffee. Since 2015, the EU has imposed additional controls on Peruvian quinoa due to pesticide residues, which has served as a significant barrier for exporters and importers. By 2025, only two Peruvian organic products will be subject to these additional controls. In the first nine months of 2024, quinoa shipments reached $50.4 million, with the USA, Canada, and Italy being the primary markets.
