In 2024, Peru experienced a 26.8% increase in papaya exports, totaling 355.5 tons, with 73.7% being Andean papaya and 26.3% tropical papaya. The exports were distributed across seven countries, with Chile being the primary market receiving 91.4% of the shipments. The main companies involved in these exports were Andean Superfood and Agrícola Los Médanos, among 22 other companies. Despite this increase, there has been a decrease in papaya exports over the past five years by 42%, due to low foreign market consumption and dependence on a single market. The production of Andean papaya is mainly in Puno, Arequipa, Huánuco, and Amazonas, while tropical papaya is produced in regions such as Ucayali, Loreto, San Martín, and Lambayeque.
