Philippines sends first shipment of Hass avocados to Japan

The Philippines has shipped its first shipment of Hass avocados to Japan, thus expanding its access to markets. The agricultural attaché of the Philippine Bureau of Agriculture in Tokyo, Maria Alilia Maghirang, said in a statement that “The Philippines was the first country in Asia to export Hass avocados to Japan. This offers local producers an excellent opportunity to capitalize on the growing demand for fresh fruits from Japan,” The director of the Bureau of Plant Industry, Gerald Glenn Panganiban, detailed that 2,240 boxes containing 12,320 kilograms of this popular fruit had been delivered to Japan for a value of US$40,320. “The goal for next year is to send 88 thousand boxes equivalent to 484 thousand kilograms of Hass avocados for a value of US$ 1,584 million” he indicated.
