In the first quarter of 2023, Turkey's peanut exports soared to $73.79 million, a significant leap from the $24.25 million recorded in the same timeframe the previous year, reaching a total of $151.57 million in exports to 96 countries for the year. Italy, Germany, and Iraq emerged as the leading importers, with Italy alone accounting for $12.145 million of the imports. This surge in exports has been warmly welcomed by farmers in Şanlıurfa and Gaziantep, the main peanut-producing regions, who now refer to peanuts as 'green gold.' The export figures are anticipated to climb even higher following the upcoming harvest season.
