Planting of the 2023 second crop of corn reaches 74% in the Center-South of Brazil

Porto Alegre, March 13, 2023 – The planting of the 2023 second corn crop in the Center-South of Brazil, popularly known as safrinha, reached 74% of the estimated area of 14.952 million hectares, according to a survey by SAFRAS & Mercado, with data until March 10th. The works reach 55.8% of the area in Paraná, of 2.28 million hectares. In São Paulo, planting occupies 49.8% of the planned area of 527,000 hectares. In Mato Grosso do Sul, planting reached 67.9% of the 2.196 million hectares planned. In Goiás, of the projected 2.413 million hectares, planting reached 72.3%. In Mato Grosso, cultivation is in 91.2% of the 6.653 million hectares forecast. In Minas Gerais, planting reaches 24.9% of the area of 883 thousand hectares. In the same period last year, cultivation reached 84.4% of the area of 14.809 million hectares for the 2022 off-season, while the average planting for the period in the last five years is 81.6%.
