(Haenam=Yonhap News) Reporter Jo Geun-young = South Jeolla Province's Haenam County launched the "Haenam Honey Sweet Potato Rice Cake" on the 9th, using sweet potatoes, the county's representative specialty. This rice cake is a processed product developed by the Haenam County Agricultural Technology Center last year and is a type of Injeolmi rice cake with pork. The county explained that it added plenty of Haenam sweet potatoes to the glutinous rice dough to bring out a natural sweetness and a soft texture. Sales have started at the Haenam County local food direct sales office and the Haenam Miso online shopping mall. One box (containing 6 pieces) is sold for 15,000 won. From the 12th to the 13th, a tasting and promotional event will be held at the Haenam County local food direct sales office. The Haenam County Agricultural Technology Center developed three types of sweet potato rice cakes last year—sweet potato end rice cake, sweet potato Injeolmi rice cake, and sweet potato honey rice cake—to diversify regional specialized processed products. In the future, they plan to expand the development of processed products utilizing sweet potato chips and sweet potato paste, not just rice cakes, to increase the competitiveness of the regional sweet potato processing industry. chogy@yna.co.kr
