Bulgaria: Poor strawberry crop and 30% higher price this year

Producers from the Kresna region are expecting a poor harvest of strawberries. Expensive preparations, lack of labor and a twice weaker harvest compared to last year. Such is the balance sheet for Alexander Hristov, who grows tens of acres of strawberries. And because of the difficulties with cultivation, the producers expect a 30% increase in the price. "The price of our product here this year is on average between 4 and 5 BGN. It is competitive with the Greek one, which is 2-3 BGN this season," said Alexander Hristov, a strawberry producer, to BNT. The reason for the lower price of strawberries in Greece is that the production of this fruit there is subsidized by the state. "There should be some regulation, some incentive for these workers, purely insurance. But I hear that in other European countries seasonal work is well subsidized," he said.
