In 2022, U.S. pork variety meat exports reached a record high of $1.27 billion, an increase of 3% from the previous year. The export volume was the second largest on record at over 530,000 metric tons. China was the primary market for these exports, and the U.S.-China Phase One Economic and Trade Agreement simplified the process for U.S. plants to export to China. Despite challenges such as tariffs and COVID controls, U.S. pork variety meat exports to China set annual records for both volume and value in the second half of 2022. Additionally, exports also grew in countries like the Philippines, Japan, Korea, Guatemala, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic.
