The Port of Rio Grande in Brazil handled a total of 31.8 million tons of cargo between January and September 2024, marking a slight decrease of 0.34% from the same period in the previous year. Despite this, it performed better than other ports in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, with Pelotas and Porto Alegre showing declines of 16.68% and 15.82% respectively. The agricultural segment was the leader in cargo handled, with 14.2 million tons. China was the main origin of imports, with 1,179 million tons, followed by Argentina and Russia. China also stood out as the main destination for exports, with a total of 7.3 million tons.
