Portugal: Import of pigs for slaughter and meat down 6.1% in the 1st half of 2021

The entrance of pigs for slaughter decreased 8.9% in the 1st half of 2021 when compared to 2020, from 552 173 heads last year to 475 840 heads this year. With regard to the total weight, this decreased by 8.1%, from 45 907 tons in 2020 to 42 188,6 tons this year. Imports of meat and its products decreased by 4.05%, from 45,477.5 tons in 2020 to 43,637 tons in 2021. Meat entries are broken down as follows: in frozen meat there was an increase in imports of 4, 3%, going from 10 465.6 tons in 2020 to 10 917.5 tons. in 2021.
