French household potato purchases experienced a significant increase between November 28 and December 25, 2022, with a 6.4% rise compared to the previous year and a 3% increase compared to 2019, largely due to the holiday season. E-commerce potato sales grew by 38%, accounting for 7% of total sales, and local stores also saw a 5.2% increase. However, there was a decline in purchases at hypermarkets and smaller supermarkets. The most popular potato formats were those sold between 1 and 2 kg, with an 85% increase in volume, and 5 kg sizes, which doubled in number. The average price of potatoes rose by 9.8% compared to 2019, averaging 1.24 euros/kg in supermarkets. Overall, household potato purchases increased by 1.5% since the start of the 2022-23 campaign, with stable rates in supermarkets.
